Ficción Caribeña

This series presents a collection of architectural patterns subtracted from buildings of the modern architectural movement constructed in the Caribbean islands of Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. This selection of archetypes specifically investigates the constructed projects during the modern period, a historical framework in a world in which freedoms are condemned or conquered in which the artist alludes to the idea of a monument in the context of modernity.

In each, the government system develops an idea of modernity conforming to an ideological filter. Rogelio’s gaze focuses on exploring how the agendas of the different systems of government in the Caribbean are translated into design and forms. The series will be presented as an installation, creating a visual kaleidoscope that looks back at this paradigm, revisioning the discourses concerning vernacular and national identities.
